Dear colleagues,

It is our great honour and pleasure to invite you to the beautiful city of Dubrovnik for the 4th Croatian Congress on Occupational Health that will be held in conjunction with the 14th International Congress on Occupational Health Services. This International Congress of the ICOH Scientific Committee on Health Services Research and Evaluation in Occupational Health will be hosted for the first time in Croatia, after recent congresses in Denmark (Aarhus, 2001), the Netherlands (Amsterdam, 2002), Belgium (Gent, 2003), Italy (Modena, 2004), and Japan (Utsunomiya, 2005).

The world of occupational health is a very dynamic one. In many countries considerable changes in the legislation, system, or daily practice in the field of occupational health and safety are going on. Health services research and evaluation is needed to monitor and study the effects of such changes. The adoption of principles and methods of evidence-based medicine may improve the quality of occupational health professionals and services and contribute to a sound scientific and professional basis for the field of occupational health. Developments in health promotion, in public health, and in primary health care are also influencing health at work. All these issues are discussed during the congress. Although the main theme of the congress is 'occupational health services in transition in eastern and western Europe' we hope and expect to welcome also colleagues from outside Europe to share and discuss with us their research results, experiences and views.

We are pleased to offer you a well-assorted collection of keynote presentations, free papers, posters, and special sessions on research and practical experiences in the field of occupational health and safety. We do hope that you will find inspiration for changes in your daily practice as a practitioner of occupational health or challenging ideas for new national or international research projects.
